From 13 March to 10 May 2025, Galerie La Forest Divonne is delighted to present ‘The Memory of Life’, a solo exhibition by Catherine François. This first exhibition by the Belgian sculptor in the gallery’s new space at 130 Avenue Louise will take the visitor on a journey through water, bronze and wood, from figurative forms to abstract sculptures inspired by nature.
Visitors to the exhibition will be greeted by the gurgling of a bronze fountain. Bronze and water are the two foundations of Catherine François’ work. And it’s only a short step from bronze to fire. Catherine François plunges us into the origins of matter, taking us back to the foundations of man’s relationship with nature. She wanted the exhibition to be a journey, from reason to intuition: ‘The Memory of Life’.
The artist’s arm is guided by the behaviour of the material. The result is a series of fantastic works in which anyone can let their imagination run wild. Some will see canyons, others animals, silhouettes or supernatural creatures. The artist lets intuition guide her fingers, and takes a back seat to the amazing properties of nature. Catherine François’s exhibition thus ends as an invitation to melt into nature rather than control it, to rediscover the true place of human beings in their environment.
