To launch her monograph “À l’œuvre”, published by Art3, Bernadette Chéné will sign her book at the gallery on Wednesday, December 6, from 5 to 8 pm.
The book is an account of thirty-five years of artistic work, which began in the 1980s with tapestry, and later, through various stages in which material and gesture are paramount, moves resolutely towards sculpture. She approaches her work through materials and gestures. Sheets, blotters, paper, newspapers, bamboo, pine needles, wicker…. and now metal unfold a succession of chapters that the artist handles with the same curiosity, simplicity and necessity. With this in mind, the texts have been chosen from those of authors who have marked certain exhibitions or decisive stages in the artist’s career.
An ensemble of the artist’s works in newsprint, wood and metal will be presented at the gallery until January 13, 2024, in dialogue with “Anatomie d’un paysage”, an exhibition by Valérie Novello currently on view at the gallery.
