Art on Paper 2023

05 Oct - 08 Oct 2023
Fairs

For Art On Paper 2023, Galerie La Forest Divonne presents three artists: the Franco-Venezuelan Caribaï for the first time at Art On Paper, the French Guy de Malherbe (Art on Paper 2021) and the Franco-Italian Valérie Novello (Art on Paper 2022).

The stand will be centered around a very large-format work by Caribaï, designed for the Musée des Arts Asiatiques de Nice, on the occasion of the solo exhibition devoted to her by the museum from May to December 2021. Born in Japan in 1984, Caribaï is influenced by Asian culture, from which she draws the inspiration for her work and her main medium: paper. Painted, cut out and in turn presented loose, mounted on wood or under glass. Her abstract compositions evoke both calligraphy and Japanese landscape painting, with its famous conceptual pairs: Mountain-water and Wind-light.

At the same time, Guy de Malherbe will be presenting a collection of previously unpublished drawings and gouaches on paper. These works draw on the artist’s experience of cliffs and rocks, which he interprets very freely, leaving much to the subconscious and dreams. Born in 1958, Malherbe exhibits regularly in Europe and North America. His work has already been acclaimed by five solo exhibitions in various French museums.

Finally, as a reminder of her acclaimed presentation at Art On Paper 2022, Valérie Novello will present a number of recent works in her distinctive crumpled and rubbed paper technique, on the borderline between drawing and sculpture.
