For his second exhibition at Galerie La Forest Divonne in Paris, Patrice Giorda presents a series of new paintings, still marked by the strong, contrasted light that defines his work—achieved through expressive, vibrant colors and a gesture-driven approach.
Born in Lyon in 1952, Patrice Giorda lives and works in Lyon. He graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon in the late 1970s and quickly began exhibiting in galleries, including Galerie Templon in Paris, as well as in numerous French and international institutions (such as MoMA in New York in 1984, in the exhibition “Eight French Painters”). His works are held in some of France’s most important national collections, including the Centre Pompidou and the CNAP.
Titian, Caravaggio, Veronese, and Velázquez have been Giorda’s guiding masters. At a time when figurative and plein air painting is enjoying a major revival, Giorda stands as a forerunner—at a time when, in the 1980s, many believed that painting was “over.” Today, he invites us to continually renew our perspective on what painting has to say—eternal and powerful.
