From 12 January to 4 March 2023, Galerie La Forest Divonne presents the first solo exhibition in Brussels of Christian Renonciat.
Since the 1980s, Christian Renonciat has travelled throughout Europe, the United States and Asia exhibiting his extraordinary wooden sculptures. His virtuoso and sensitive work ranges from trompe l’oeil to the limits of abstraction.
In Brussels he will present an important group of recent bas-reliefs in lime, ayous or cedar. Blankets, sheets of crumpled paper, cardboard boxes or tarpaulins, which one would like to touch so much they seem real, velvety and supple. If the spectator is first blown away by the technical prowess and the veracity of the forms, the spectacular impression quickly gives way to the delicate emotion of memory, so much so that Renonciat’s art plunges us into the delicious memory of sensations. The touch of all these materials immediately recalls our fingers and our imagination, carried by the warmth of the wood.
In parallel to this exhibition, the gallery will present a selection of Christian Renonciat’s sculptures on its stand at BRAFA from 29 January to 5 February 2023.
