Rachel Labastie – Méditerranée, Odyssées contemporaines
off-site
«This year, with our new exhibition Méditerranée, Odyssées contemporaines, I invite you to dive into the soul of this mythical sea in the company of 74 artists from 20 countries.
Crossroads of civilizations, the Mediterranean has always been a space where past and present, traditions and modernity coexist. Today more than ever, it crystallizes contemporary issues: climate change, food insecurity, ecological struggles but also social upheavals.
In this exhibition, the artists interact with history and civilizations, inviting us to explore the richness of Mediterranean traditions, the reality of our common roots and the diversity of our cultures.
They pay tribute to the Mediterranean as a space of exchange, movement and passage, evoke the precariousness, the fragility of climate migration and the pain of exile, and question the mechanisms of exclusion and collective forgetting.
Their works, whether committed, poetic or imbued with humor, also speak of the transmission of knowledge, languages, songs, objects and gestures from everyday life or ancestral practices.
Finally, this artistic journey invites you to think of the Mediterranean as a shared territory and memory where our cultures intertwine and enrich each other in a world in perpetual evolution.”
