Arthur Aillaud – Soleil oblique
Arthur Aillaud focuses his interest on our everyday environment. His landscapes, as he puts it, are the opposite of a postcard.
If he paints a beach, he will include in the composition part of the parking lot behind it, complete with parked cars. Likewise, in the remarkable series centered on the landscapes of Greece, where he spent holidays with his parents as a child, he reworked and combined photographs of plots of land and houses under construction found on real estate agencies’ websites. Using the Web as a playground, Arthur Aillaud creates imaginary landscapes of striking realism. Beyond the playful traps the artist sets for us, his painting captures the viewer’s gaze through the sheer strength of its pictorial qualities.
