Valérie Novello and Illés Sarkantyu, “La main (et) le gant”, Musée Jenisch Vevey, Suisse

off-site

Valérie Novello and Illés Sarkantyu have been invited by the Musée Jenisch Vevey (Suisse) to take part in the exhibition “The hand (and) the glove”.

A symbol of power, devotion and seduction, and a tool for tactile exploration that is indispensable to workers and artists alike, the motif of the hand and glove is explored here from the 16th century to contemporary art. Through a selection of works from the museum’s collections, enhanced by external loans, this thematic exhibition sheds new light on the narrative functions of the hand, sometimes bare, sometimes gloved. The drawings, prints, sculptures, paintings and videos brought together testify to the creative and metaphorical power of hand games and their accessories of choice, gloves.

The exhibition is curated by Philippe Piguet, historian, art critic and independent curator, assisted by Margaux Farron, scientific collaborator.
